1) Find a film clip on YouTube that uses sound in an interesting way. Analyse the use of sound, making sure you use the key language we have learned about sound in film:
- Diegetic and non-diegetic sound
- Parallel and contrapuntal sound
- Sound bridges
Remember to discuss/analyse all the different types of sound present in the clip:
- Music
- Dialogue
- Voiceover
- Sound effects
You also need to highlight or put in bold any use of media language.
There is a use of diegetic sound through the sound of the toiletries such as the toiler flushing and the bath running as the protagonist, these are enigma codes due to the concealing of the danger til it gets close enough of the audience to see, it creates suspense and the sound should be calming and relaxing to the audience but due to it’s loudness it has the opposite effect on the audiences perception of the scene. As the violence inevitably begins, non-diagetic music begins playing with the previous sound effects and screams of terror from the protagonist, the music is parallel with the protagonists emotions and state of mind. It crescendo with her fear and begins to get quieter as she looses her mobility and slides down the bath after being attacked. By the end the sound effects are contrapuntal as they twist the perception of the sound of a shower as calm and protecting to dangerous and fearful.
